The Detroit Lions have a few rookies mature beyond their years in Teez Tabor and Jarrad Davis.

Both Tabor and Davis have wasted no time getting involved in the community, as both were key participants at a recent Lions event for the Detroit PAL this offseason involving youth football in the Motor City.

The Detroit Lions are currently enjoying summer, but the news never stops. Stay up to date with everything –take five seconds to sign up for our FREE Lions newsletter now!

Each player showed maturity beyond their years in talking about the event with reporters.

“I love being out here in the community, five or six years ago just looking for a way out. Football was my way out. Every time I get to get out here and give back to these kids I love it, I was just like these kids not too long ago,Authentic Greg Olsen Jersey,” Tabor said.

On the field,Authentic Thomas Davis Sr Jersey, Tabor went at the kids as if he was competing in college or the pros,Womens Walter Payton Jersey, all part of what he said was a learning process.

“You gotta compete,Authentic Andy Dalton Jersey, there’s only one way to play football. You gotta instill that in them if they want to go somewhere,” Tabor said with a grin.

Davis said he enjoyed giving back thanks to the fact that he never got to have experiences like working with top players when he was growing up.

“That’s what makes this so much fun. My home town was a little small town. I wasn’t fortunate enough to have NFL players come out and run a camp with me, knowing exactly what I wanted as a kid,” Davis said. “I knew I wanted to meet NFL guys. For me to put the work in I put in,Womens Greg Olsen Jersey,Womens Thomas Davis Sr Jersey, to come out here and give this to these kids is the least I can do.”

The rookie linebacker said that it’s hard not to lose sight of what makes youth football and kids in general so special to him.

“It’s funny because you remember lacing up your little cleats out there and having fun and running around and cutting loose,Authentic Walter Payton Jersey,Authentic Jordan Howard Jersey,” he said with a smile. “This is the root of the game. These guys out here play because they love it and enjoy it. I got the same stuff flowing through my veins right now.”

Clearly,Womens Jordan Howard Jersey,Womens Andy Dalton Jersey, bet on both Tabor and Davis continuing to get involved in the community in the future.

Edmonton Oilers center Connor McDavid signed one of the richest contracts in NHL history and helped his team at the same time.

A music major with an opera background is coming off arguably the greatest kicking season in NFL history.

So what does Baltimore’s Justin Tucker do for an encore?

is hoping for the chance to reach one of his career goals: breaking the league mark for longest field goal set at 64 yards by Matt Prater in 2013.,Womens Hau’oli Kikaha Jersey,Besides remaining as consistent as last year,Womens Julio Jones Jersey, Tucker, 27

“It would be cool to have that record,” Tucker told co-host Gil Brandt and me Monday night on SiriusXM NFL Radio. “That’s definitely another notch in the belt so to speak that I’d like to have attached to my name one day.”

Tucker hit a high note last season when he tied Blair Walsh’s NFL record by converting all 10 of his field goals from 50-plus yards, with a long of 57. Tucker further showcased his leg strength at the Pro Bowl by booting a 75-yard field goal off a tee during practice.

Ravens coach John Harbaugh might not give Tucker the chance to strike from that distance during an actual game because of the scoring possibility the opposition would have via return should the kick fall short. But in terms of execution itself, Tucker believes “not a whole lot would be different between a 75-yard attempt and a PAT.”

“I know a lot of people are probably scratching their heads (since) it’s drilled into every football fan’s mind that longer kicks require lower trajectory because we make these analogies to golf and how it’s like you’re driving a ball off the tee box when you’re kicking from further away,” Tucker explained. “But the difference in the trajectory is negligible.

“If you’re hitting a good ball, the first six to eight yards are the most important. That’s where a potential blocker could get his hand on the ball. I really don’t think the difference in trajectory connecting on a ball from 75 (yards) as opposed to 33 is that significant.”

Tucker’s rise atop his field is among the most unexpected in NFL history. Besides failing to get drafted in 2012 out of the University of Texas, Tucker wasn’t even immediately signed as a free agent until he joined the Ravens a full month after the selection process was completed.

But it didn’t take long for Tucker to show he was more than the proverbial “camp leg” added simply to give the starting kicker extra preseason rest. Tucker bested incumbent Billy Cundiff for the job and quickly proved he could handle the pressure that comes with the position at the NFL level by hitting the game-winning field goal in Week 3 against New England with two seconds remaining.

Tucker played a critical role in Baltimore’s march to winning Super Bowl 47, making 90.9 percent of his regular-season field goals and kicking a 47-yarder in double overtime at Denver in the playoffs.

Jeff Wilkins and Tony Zendejas) have ever posted a higher single-season field-goal percentage than Tucker’s clip of 97.4.,After a 2015 slump, Tucker rebounded last season by nailing 38 of his 39 field-goal attempts and continuing his streak of never having missed an extra point (166 and counting). Only four other kickers who finished without a miss (Gary Anderson, Mike Vanderjagt

is proud of his accomplishments. But those numbers aren’t what he values most.,Tucker, who signed a four-year,Womens Malcom Brown Jersey,Womens Tyler Lockett Jersey, $16.8 million contract in 2016

that’s the number that matters to me the most.,Womens David Johnson Jersey,” Tucker said. “It’s certainly not an individual stat but we play a lot of close games. To be able to come through in those important moments for your team,”The most important one for me is wins

“Ultimately, you get (Super Bowl) rings for that. I’ve got one. I want to get more of those.”

Tucker scours video of his kicks to make sure the technique is sound., Tucker is as diligent in trying to perfect his craft as the NFL’s non-specialists. Besides practicing extensively at team headquarters with his long snapper (Morgan Cox) and holder (punter Sam Koch) under the eye of special-teams coaches Jerry Rosburg and Randy Brown,To that end

The same goes in the offseason, when Tucker uses his phone to videotape kicks during sessions at the University of North Texas and Southlake Carroll High School in the Dallas area. Tucker said he “feels like a storm chaser” when heading out to practice during inclement weather.

the most important thing is putting your foot on the sweet spot. The rest almost takes care of itself. You can fix a bad kick with good foot-to-ball contact pretty much any day of the week.”,” said Tucker. “To me,”I’ve got to go and find whatever field I can locate and hopefully the conditions are something I can learn from

Tucker’s long-range accuracy plays a significant role in shaping coaching strategies from both Baltimore and the opposition regarding field position. But ideally for the Ravens, the offense will generate more touchdowns in 2017 so Tucker doesn’t again have to account for such a high percentage (41.1) of Baltimore’s overall scoring.

“Time will tell how good we can be. We haven’t even gotten into training camp yet.”, Tucker said,Such improvement also would increase the chances that Baltimore can improve on last year’s 8-8 record. Asked to provide a specific reason for optimism among Ravens fans about that happening

that’s something for somebody.”, “But I’ll be back. There’s that. Hopefully,Authentic Malcom Brown Jersey,Authentic Hau’oli Kikaha Jersey,Authentic Tyler Lockett Jersey,Authentic David Johnson Jersey,Authentic Julio Jones Jersey,He then laughed and added

It should be music to their ears.

Alex Marvez can be heard from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. ET Tuesday and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. ET Wednesday on SiriusXM NFL Radio.

After he was selected by the team with the No. 2 overall pick in the 1997 NHL draft, adidas Gordie Howe jersey, adidas Jimmy Howard jersey, adidas Frans Nielsen jersey, Patrick Marleau went on to play 19 seasons with the San Jose Sharks. During that time he was consistently one of the top players in the league — and also one of the most underrated — and put together a career that made him the franchise’s all-time leader in pretty much every major category.

Marleau’s time with the Sharks officially came to an end this summer when he signed a three-year contract in free agency to join the Toronto Maple Leafs, making the 2017-18 season the first one in two decades the Sharks will hit the ice without Marleau.

On Sunday, the Sharks took out a full-page ad in the San Jose Mercury on Sunday to thank Marleau for all of his contributions over the years.

Along with his consistent production he was also extremely durable, missing more than five games in a season just two times and never more than nine.

The Sharks were never able to win a championship with Marleau, but they did reach four Western Conference Finals and the 2016 Stanley Cup Final. During his time with the Sharks no player in the NHL scored more playoff goals than Marleau’s 68.

I graded and ranked each Atlanta Falcons unit for 2017 and special teams came in at C-,Authentic David Johnson Jersey,A couple weeks back, though and some folks think the Falcons special teams is actually one of the better groups in the league., which was a team low grade. Good people can disagree

According to Nate Davis at USA Today, Kansas City Chiefs and Los Angeles Rams., Atlanta’s special team unit trails only three teams: that of the Oakland Raiders

Davis says the combination of Matt Bryant and Matt Bosher is overshadowed and Andre Roberts will improve the return game:

They’re understandably overshadowed. Yet it’s always been that way for K Matt Bryant, leading the NFC with 65 touchbacks last year. Newly signed Andre Roberts improves the return game., one of the best in the business for 15 seasons. In addition to solid punting — though he’s rarely needed — Matt Bosher capably handles kickoffs

but our staff is taking a wait-and-see approach to the kick and punt returner openings.,He’s right on the money about Bryant and Bosher

there’s no guarantee that Roberts will win the job with burners like Taylor Gabriel and Justin Hardy on the roster. Second,Womens Malcom Brown Jersey,First of all,Authentic Tyler Lockett Jersey,Authentic Julio Jones Jersey, for that matter)., even if he does there’s no reason to assume he will post anything close to Devin-Hester-in-his-prime kind of numbers (or even average ones

as well.,Returning kicks has more to do with blocking than the skill of the individual returner and these Falcons have some work to do in that department. Atlanta ranked among the league’s worst in return yardage last year and their own coverage was lacking

so until the Falcons improve there,Special teams is ultimately about field position, at least from my vantage point., this will remain the weakest unit on the team despite all the talent at placekicker and punter

Back to Davis’ rankings: around the NFC South,Authentic Malcom Brown Jersey,Authentic Hau’oli Kikaha Jersey, while Carolina (No. 19) and Tampa Bay (No. 21) lagged behind.,Womens Hau’oli Kikaha Jersey,Womens Tyler Lockett Jersey,Womens David Johnson Jersey,Womens Julio Jones Jersey, the New Orleans Saints special teams unit ranked No. 5 just behind Atlanta.

I am the reason Tim Tebow is not on an NFL roster today.

    And so are you.

And you … and you … and you … and the thousands of others who will buy tickets this weekend for a minor-league baseball series in Kissimmee between the Florida Fire Frogs and the St. Lucie Tebows, er, Mets.

yet,This struck me as I was interviewing Fire Frogs manager Ralph “Rocket” Wheeler on Wednesday. Granted, he was ecstatic Tebow would be drawing a big crowd to Osceola County Stadium this weekend, but I could sense he wanted to talk about his team and his players and,Womens Devonta Freeman Jersey, I kept firing question after question about Tebow:

Are you surprised Tebow is doing so well as a baseball player?

Do you feel Tebow is taking the spot of a legitimate major-league prospect?

What about the Fire Frogs selling the $50 “Tim Tebow VIP Experience” in which fans get perks like a souvenir bottle of dirt from the actual batter’s box where Tebow will stand this weekend?

“I have no idea,Womens Matt Ryan Jersey,” Wheeler said about the Tebow marketing promotion. “That’s not my department. My department is to get our guys ready for the major leagues. I know there’s a lot of hype for Tim Tebow,Womens Vic Beasley Jersey, but we’ve got a lot of good players on our team.”

And the vast majority of them are younger and better prospects than Tebow — except nobody wants to talk about them or buy a $50 bottle of their commemorative dirt to put on the fireplace mantel. This,Womens Tevin Coleman Jersey, my fellow Tebow lovers, is why our boy Timmy is a marketing bonanza in minor-league baseball instead of a quarterback in the NFL.

I’m convinced that our constant clamoring for Tebow,Womens Joe Flaccos Jersey, his immense popularity and cult following are why he was cast out of the NFL. He was too beloved for his own good.

Go ahead and call me a Tebow homer if you want, but it still bothers me that Timmy Terrific never got the chance to mature and develop like other young NFL quarterbacks who were drafted in the first round.

And, roll the dice on Tebow, yes, a franchise that has been irrelevant for a decade, I’ve written it a million times: Why didn’t the Jaguars, it still bothers me that the hopeless hype-less Jacksonville Jaguars wouldn’t take a chance on Tebow — a hometown hero who grew up in Jacksonville to become a Florida Gators legend and one of the greatest college football players of all time. If I’ve written it once, build an offense around him and give him three years to develop as they did Blaine Gabbert, who was 5-22 as Jags starter?

that so many terrible quarterbacks receive chance after chance after chance (yes,It still bothers me,Authentic Devonta Freeman Jersey, too,Authentic Matt Ryan Jersey, Gabbert and Brandon Weeden are still on NFL rosters) and Tebow never did. Football is a sport where teams have shown they will win at all costs but yet nobody was willing to take a chance on the ultimate winner?

All Tebow ever did as a quarterback was win — a state championship in high school,Authentic Vic Beasley Jersey, two national championships and a Heisman Trophy in college and a playoff victory during his only season as an NFL starter.

Never in history has there been a quarterback chosen in the first round of the NFL draft who was given less of a chance to be a starting quarterback in the NFL. Look it up: Other than Tebow,Authentic Tevin Coleman Jersey, there’s never been a quarterback who compiled a winning record (8-4) as a starter,Authentic Joe Flaccos Jersey, took his team to the playoffs in his only year as a starter and never again started another game.

The reason for this is simple: NFL coaches didn’t think Tebow was good enough to justify the hype and hullabaloo that came with having him on the roster. Don’t tell me Tebow wasn’t at least good enough to be a backup QB for the Browns or the Bills. Except NFL coaches don’t like it when their backup QB is a cultural icon and sells more jerseys than the starting QB.

In a certain sense, Colin Kaepernick is the Tim Tebow of today’s NFL. He obviously has the skill set to at least be on a roster, but coaches don’t think he’s good enough to justify the clamor and commotion he would create.

Tebow is too revered for his own good; Kaepernick is too reviled.

stodgy,You see, NFL coaches are traditionally stern, paranoid control freaks who try to limit every distraction and diversion that takes away from the ultra-serious business of football. They simply don’t like it when a player creates a sideshow around their team.

Personally, I believe more of these perennially pathetic NFL franchises should start running their operation like a minor-league baseball team.

You’ll see what I mean this weekend when the St. Lucie Mets and Florida Fire Frogs show us that a Tebow sideshow is better than no show at all.

The Steelers can tag the versatile Bell for the second straight season in 2018 at $14.54 million or re-sign him. The two sides cannot resume negotiations until the season ends.

Other than Sidney Crosby, no NHL player has more points over the last four seasons than Patrick Kane of the Chicago Blackhawks with 328 in 294 games, with 136 of them goals.

That was thanks in no small part to winger Artemi Panarin, whose immediate chemistry with Kane and center Artem Anisimov established a dominant top line for Chicago and Kane’s two best offensive seasons (in points per game average) in that four-season span.

Panaerin was traded to the Columbus Blue Jackets in a deal that brought Brandon Saad back to the Blackhawks. What does Kane think about losing his wingman?

    He’s a little bummed.

From Mark Lazarus of the Chicago Sun-Times:

‘‘I’d be lying to you if I was sitting up here saying I wasn’t disappointed when it first went down, no doubt about it,adidas Carey Price jersey,’’ Kane said at the 10th annual Hawks convention at the downtown Hilton. ‘‘Artemi’s a great kid, authentic Andrew Shaw jersey, someone I got along with really well off the ice and had that chemistry with on the ice. It was just fun to play with him every night. I’ll miss him, authentic Max Pacioretty jersey, for sure.’’

As for who might fill that role across from Kane, adidas P.K Subban jersey, there are a few candidates. (Saad will play with his old linemate, Jonathan Toews.)

There’s Ryan Hartman, coming off a 19-goal rookie campaign. He only had 76 minutes of ice time with Kane last season. There’s Nick Schmaltz, who played mostly with Jonathan Toews but had five assists in 186 minutes with Kane last season.

There’s rookie Alex DeBrincat, an offensive dynamo, authentic Carey Price jersey, and it’s not like placing a rookie with Kane didn’t work out last time. (Although there’s a slight difference between a 19 year old from the OHL and a 25-year-old veteran of the KHL.)

There’s also 35-year-old Patrick Sharp, adidas Andrew Shaw jersey, adidas Max Pacioretty jersey, adidas Mike Fisher jersey, who was Kane’s linemate for parts of his first stint in Chicago but is coming off an horrific season (18 points in 48 games).

What does Kane think about his line next season?

‘‘Who knows what’s going to happen?’’ Kane said. ‘‘I could have better chemistry with a guy like Schmaltz or better chemistry with someone like Hartman. And I know I played well with Sharp in the past, authentic Mike Fisher jersey, authentic P.K Subban jersey, too. I’m looking forward to the season and the next challenge.’’

The good news for Chicago is that Kane has been a point-per-game player every season since 2012. He’s not a product of Panarin.

The real question is how much Panarin was a product of Kane, but we suppose that’s for the Blue Jackets to answer.
